Rugid,
Hi, I have a sand sifting star and several red legged and scarlet hermits. The hermits have never bothered the sand sifting star.
Do hermits harm corals/anemones or anything in a reef for that matter? I was told they can be damaging to a reef but what exactly do they dammage?
The problem is that they are opportunitic omnivores, and if there isn't enough food available to them they have been reported to be problematic, especially eating desired snails.
would they ever harm corals/mushrooms?
They have been known to crawl on them but I personally have never seen any harm down to corals by a hermit. Of course there are many types of hermit crabs, some are suitable and others are not. The commonly known red-legged hermits should be fine.
I have 3 blue legged hermit crabs in my 75 you think they will be fine?
