Hi all,
My tank has been up for a few months, and I've gotten my live rock from a couple different sources. This little creature showed up a couple weeks ago and has been moving around and growing larger. Any idea what he/she is? Do I want to keep it..get rid of it??? It is about the size of a pea in the center. Dark brown. Has about 20+ little spikes shooting off all around it.![]() TIA! Jason

![]() I wouldn't overly worry about a single urchin "eat up" your live rock. ![]() If anything, it may help rejuvenate your live rock by scraping some of the coralline algae off it, hence opening up the pores/little holes in the rock to help make this rock a good filtration material again. Not just some rock to stick your corals on. ![]()

That article is a good read, but that chart at the end is great - nice and simple.

Looks like the same type of "rock" urchin that I've had in the past- no big deal, from your pic, but with only a 37g tank, he may eventually starve- they seem to need a lot of area to graze. They generally come out at night and stay still during the day.

He will grow up to be a nice fat sea urchin. Great for tank spring cleaning.
