Lava rock
I just wanted to ask if you could use lava rock for landscaping and aquarium epoxy to build rocks to use in your system. Make the shapes you want then seed it with some good live rock.
Thanks in advance. |

You could and maybe it would be OK, but I wouldn't. I just don't trust lava rock.

If I could find a source with good prices on lace rock I would that. Unfortunatly locally I cannot get it any cheaper than $16.00 a piece, that would cost more than buying live rock for the tank.

The risk with lava rock is that minerals might leach out because salt water is so corrosive. Lava often contains iron and other metals that would poison your tank or cause algae blooms over time.
