suggestions on filter media

hi guys,

back from two months of being overseas. tank survived but was nasty with only two water changes during that period (i know, i will never do that to the tank again).

anyhow, so the filter media for my CPR bakpak, the blue ribbons that came with it, has algae growth all over it. i figure i might as well change it out, instead of scrubbing it. do you guys have any suggestions on what kind of filter media to use? perhaps something better than those ribbons.

tank is a 26g 50lb LR, LPS and softies, i also use a small eheim filter.

TIA

leave it empty. just use the skimmer and put carbon in when needed. your rock should be all filtration you need.

i know the bio bale (blue ribbons) that the CPR bakpak comes with does not do much. at best, it only traps debris. but wouldn't it be helpful to add something else that would increase filtration? like ceramic balls or something? something with large surface area to allow for growth of helpful bacteria? i dunno. what do you guys think? leaving the cavity empty seems like a waste of space to me, but then again, you probably know more than i do. TIA

I'd run carbon. Carbon takes out all kinds of nasties (including many toxins from dying sponges and other things you might not even know you have).
