Oh oh, Double trouble?
A couple weeks ago I bought a small foxface lo to help with my on going hair algae problem, It didnt seem to be doing too well very skinny and then just dissapeared for 4 or 5 days. I figured it had died. So anyways another lfs had a nice fat foxface on sale the other day on sale so I decided to try again hoping this one would fare better. Well he is and this morning while cleaning the front glass guess what? Yep, I now am the proud owner of 2 foxface los. Will they be ok in a 125 together or am I looking at trouble? My scopus tang for now dosent let either venture out too much but eventually......? It would be great if they would both go to town on the algae. What do you all think?

It's difficult to predict what will happen with individual fish but I suspect that if the new Siganus vulpinus (lo is no longer a valid sub-species) is significantly larger than the previous resident fish, then there is a good chance that they will get along.
There are certainly a lot of hobbyists who keep more than one Foxface Rabbitfish in the same tank but the size of the tank is always an important factor. I kept one in a 120-gal tank and I always felt that the tank was a little on the small side, especially after he matured. It is important that you feed a varied diet but even more importantly, you must feed algae daily. I usually fed Seaweed Selects by Ocean Nutrition (on a clip attached to the glass). It comes in three different "flavors" -- red, green and brown. My fish preferred the red and the green over the brown. Lettuce is not really a good substitute.

I just like to add to what Ninong had said already that they may or may not eat your hair algae. My S.unimaculatus and S.virgatus both showed no interest in it at all, however, lots of people report that theirs eat it with gusto. I wish you luck with the two Rabbitfishes and hope they do co-exist well, as a last resort you can always exchange one for something else at the store.

Well it turns out I now have one foxface. The skinny one that dissapeared was barley alive when I got home and the new one was bouncing him around the tank. Thanks for the food info tho I will make sure and get the one left some greens if he dosent start going after the algae.
