Taking the plunge into SPS....

I am ready to try some SPS. I have a 55 gallon tank with 2-175 watt MH and 130 PC actinics.I am bored with soft corals and LPS.

Where do you guys buy your SPS?
The LFS around here don't want to order it for fear of getting stuck with it and it dying on them.

Thanks.

Everyone has their own preferences on where to get the frags( I'm assuming you want to start out with some captive raised frags), but I would wholeheartedly recommend frags from our own, kevinpo.
Here's a link to his store, just click on the frags button while there and it will bring you to the list.

Thanks. I'll check it out.
And yes, I am looking for aquacultured frags/large frags.

I think Kevin has the largest and probably most inexpensive frags out there.
He;s Moderator here so you can email him and ask questions about the species, or check out his gallery for some pictures of his tank.

BTW, I'm not in business with Kevin so I have no bias whatsoever.

Great looking stuff. I especially like the tricolor acro.

What is the best way to ship SPS. Since they are more delicate, should I do overnight? I have had no problems shipping softies and LPS 2 day mail.

Generally "sps" corals shipped overnight, at least I always went that route myself. You should talk to Kevin more about shipping if you decide to order from him, or if you have someone else in mind you can ask them what is their preffered method of shipping. Most online vendors prefer to ship overnight their livestock.

Hello,
I ship overnight using FedEx for just a few frags. If you happen to live in a town where Southwest airlines lands and you are getting a box full (like a group buy) then I have a commercial freight account which is much cheaper but you have to pick up the box at the airport freight counter and pay the shipping to them.

Regards,
Kevin
PS: I will take a picture of the actual coral you will get first if you desire. We normally stock about 100 different SPS corals and about 500 frags.

I have bought many frags from Eric and although they are quite small they have been very healthy and developed into very nice pieces with coloration that matches the photos.

Regards,
Kevin

Very Nice! I think the constrasting colors between the polyps and base are very attractive.

Regards,
Kevin
