Zoo's won't open Fully
First of all, Hi to everyone at Reefland, this is my first posting and as you might guess I have a problem, well two really.
The first problem is that my Zoo's won't open fully and show there lashes, I've done all the tests on the water and they all seem fine to me Tank size:: 40 gal ( 200ltr) SG 1.023 - 1.024 PH 8.3 Cal 400-420 KH 8-10 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 5-10 Amm 0 Lighting 2X 150 watt MH + 4 X LP Blues Other corals seem to be fine its just these Zoo's, any help or advice would be great as I've tried most things like upping the PH,KH,Cal,& SG and even moving them up and down the tank to see if more or less light helps. Second Problem is Red Turf Algae, is there and cure for this B****y stuff?? I've read that Mexican Turbo's will eat it but is there any other cure or thing that will rid the tank of it ,normal Turbo's wont (Astera ) touch it. I've thrown every brand of Phos remover at it, I've tried scrubbing it with a hard tooth brush ( The Wife's of course ) but it just don't shift. Any help or advice you can give me would be FANDABBYDOZZY Regards to All Mermaids Purse |

Hi Mermaids Purse,
![]() For the zoo's, how long have you had them? Is it a matter of acclimation? For the red turf algae, it is probably from the low level of nitrates. Mexican Turbo's are known to be effective as well as Foxface Rabbitfish, but your tank is too small for the fish. |

Thanks for reply Reefland, the Zoo's have been in the tank quite some time but have been showing signs of shrinking and not opening fully, I do have some different Zoos in the tank and they seem OK they open up as soon as the blues go on but these others wont open and extend there lashes like I said I've tried more flow, more light, upping & downing the PH, Cal, & KH and nothing seems to help them, there is just one thing i've noticed, I've been using Seachems Reef Complete to maintain the Cal but it also raises the Mag as well do you think that this could be the problem but in saying that they started to fail before I started to use it

NaOH/kalk mix kills just about everything. I've used it to kill brush algae. Unfortunately, it also injures/kills coral. However, I've been able carefully use it to kill brush algae and aptasia around zoanthid polyps before. The zoanthids suffer but recover, the brush algae doesn't. I'm not exactly suggesting this... I'm just saying, if you're truly desparate and want to try something risky, it's an idea.

Never have used Kalk or the likes of so I dont think it can be that, they seem to have been going down hill for some time now and I just cant fathom out why, I do a 10% water chang every week with out fail but nothing seems to make any difference.
Thanks al the same for the advice |
