Hi Coralman
IME they do not take well unless you let them kinda roam freely and mount themselves. You can get a big piece of PVC pipe and put in the bottom of your tank with BIG pieces of gravel and make sure the PVC is not in a high current area (very low current is good) and eventually the colt will attach to a couple big pieces of gravel and you can glue those pieces of gravel onto your plug You can actually superglue the colt to the plug if you want but I can almost guarantee that it will come off!! I had to find out for myself but its true....the colt is very stubborn when it comes to mounting HTH

I've had good luck using the clear plastic pony tail holders in my daughter's room. I use the band to hold the colt frag onto a small piece of LR. It works best if you tie it down in a notch in the rock in the "V" between two branches.
The photo is of a 3rd generation frag, all cut since February, 2001. |

I love colts, so I have tried every method out there for attaching them. They slime like no tomorrow, so superglue will not work, neither does loosely "sewing" them onto rocks or piercing them with a toothpic and rubberbanding. There are only two methods I have found that work. Either use a piece of bridal veil and securely wrap the base of the frag around a rock, or leave the frag in a low flow area (like the above post in a large piece of PVC or like me, I put a floating breeder tank in my display tank to hold frags) and put a small rock ON TOP of the frag, and it will eventually attach itself to the rock. HTH

You can try this method, but it didn't work for me. I tried it based on someone else's success with this method:

I think my preference for soft corals is leaning towardds the toothpick method. Just peirce the frag near the base with a toothpick and attach the toothpick with a rubberband to a small rubble rock. Give it 2-3 weeks and it will attach fine.
