Anemone has taken hold in the shade.
I just bought a bubble tip anemone two days ago and yesterday, it seems to have set up camp on the underside of a rock where it is pretty shady. Is this normal? I was under the impression that it will move until it is in the light. It moved around a lot the first day and yesterday morning it just stopped at the underside of this rock and hasn't moved since. It looks healthy- just in a dark place. It's a 50 gallon aquarium and the water perameters are good: Ammonia, Nitrite, nitrate are all zero. It's currently stocked with two firefish, a royal gramma, and a few snails and crabs.

It's normal for BTAs to settle into dark places when they're in a new tank. It should eventually come out either by moving, or just extending its tentacles out toward the light. Generally they like to settle with their feet in dark, protected places.
Don't worry, it's not going to starve itself.

Sometime BTA move into the shade. Try to reach him and feed him. If he doesn't move out in a few days, I would try to turn the rock so that he get light. Why they do this, I don't know. If they don't get feed and light they either move back out but sometime they just stay and died. I would try to help him and keep this from happen.

Well, it's been almost a week and the BTA is still in the shade. I have fed it and it looks healthy right now but I guess I should move it, unless anyone can give me reason otherwise.

If you try to move it you risk injuring it. It will move on its own once it gets adjusted.

Move your rock that he is on and bring it out to the light if you can. BTA often do not go on to sand, so you can just take the rock and put it in the middle of the sand and this often is enough to get him out to the light.
remove him from the rock only if this is absolutly needed. Minh

Minor Update- I decided to leave the anemone be and in the middle of the day today, I caught it in the light. It blew up really large and was fully in the light for about 5 hours and then went back into its shady spot. Interesting.
