My tank is done, what do you guys think?

Here it is! 3 gallon nano reef. Inhabitants are 2 types of star polyps, blue shrooms, a tree coral, ricoredia schrooms and a bicolor psudochromis. There are also a whole bunch of hitchhikers, a red ball sponge that came on the ricordieas and some gerogorian polyps(that is what the lfs said) and some weird little flat brown anenomie thingie (on the left side of the tank). What do you guys think? I didnt really have any style when putting this together, just what i thought looked nice. On a side note, i have already began to plan to upgrade to a 20 gallon next summer . I have a feeling nothing will ever be big enough.

A reef is never "done". It is like planting a garden, you are always adding and taking care of specimens. If you feel "done" in this short amount of time then you have gone way to fast. I got my tank for christmas, the only inhabitant is my 5" deep sand bed. I have all the plumbing in and working fine and am ready to add rock, 6 months after getting the tank. Anyway, your tank does look nice, I was just pointing out how a reef should be a lesson in patience.

PRETTY !!!!
But I agree that you will want to go with more volume in no time.
It took me years to finally add a reef to my system . I wanted to make sure all of the system was mature enough to add the reef.
I added mine last December without a hitch.

hehe, i ment done in the respect that i am not buying any more corals, for this tank at least. I am working out a trade at the LFS, i am trading one of my paintball guns for a skimmer and a metalhalid lamp for when i upgrade, which i think will be around christmas now, not next summer. This is way to addicting.

Congratulations on the nano, it looks really nice. Some people say that you will want something bigger but I have to disagree, since i've got into nanos im seriously considering shutting down my other tanks and doing just nanos. For some strange reason I find them more attractive.

ps. Heres a link to my new nano, keep in mind that it has been redone with some southdown sand and new aquascaping. In the tank I have 4 leathers, piorties(i think),brick red mushrooms, blue mushrooms, purple mushrooms, purple gorgonian, xenia and button polyps. I moved the hawkfish to my main tank and want to put in some other type of fish but im not sure what I want yet. http://www.reefcentral.com/q-ball/mr9iron.htm

Looks great. I have a 3 eclipse at work I have always wanted to do a nano in there. Thanks for the ideas. Did you leave the existing filtration and lighting?

Thanks,

Brian

Very nice BTL. I'm considering a 3-5g nano by my computer. Let us know how it goes my friend.

Very nice tank. It will only get better as thing start to grow.

I have a question. How do you get the thermometer to float like that? I could have sworn that the suction cup was supposed to be against the glass. Your's is sucking water (pic 3).

Nope. I have the exact same thing. It is too heavy to float, hence the suction cup. I am just curious as to what it is sticking too?

It is a thermometer, it just floats around, the suction cup really dosnt work so i just let it drift. I really dont know how to explain it.

DJheywood: Yeah, i left the existing filter running on it, it gives a nice current. As for the lighting, the existing bulb is too weak, so i got a 13 watt PC from ah supply and retro fitted my tank. I had glass custom cut to cover the filter and all the openings in the tank (only cost 4 bucks) and then just put the light in a box and have that setting on top of the tank. It works really well. Alot of people convert the actually hood but i found that to be too hard and I worried to much about water hitting the bulb and about the hood melting.

Organicreefer: I have a tricked out phantom stock class gun. I am trading my old tricked out spyder to a guy at the LFS. Are you still in pittsburgh? if so where do you play?

Also, i have noticed this stuff that looks like "roots" growing out of the bottom of one of my peices of LR. Anyone have any ideas as to what this hitchhiker is?

Oh yeah, paint ball is pricy, that is why i started playing stock with my phantom. I didnt know there was a pittsburg in Ca. hehe. I try to get out as much as possible, i play on a private feild with freinds mostly. Speaking if big name teams i once got the oppurtunity to play with some of the All Americans (the smart parts team, i think). They came to an open game and pretty much just hosed everyone. I thought it was neat to see their tactics and how good their team work and stuff was though. The nicest gun i have ever shot was one of their evolution autocockers, man i thought i had felt some hair triggers untill i popped off a few rounds with that bad boy. Wow, that is the only way i can describe it.

one time i had these two guys pinned in a bunker and had an awesome angle on em but i must have wasted half a case of paint ,when this GIRL(no offense to any females on the board) slides in beside me with her angel set on auto and within 20 seconds eliminated both of them.around here every 12 year old has a 2 thousand dollar gun ...maybe its time for me to go stock too
