man! everything was going fine! I put the polyps in, turned on some NO lights to acclimate it. The polyps started opening up, and guess what i noticed!!!! Dramatic irony thats what it is! I was supposed to buy peppermint shrimp, but didnt have enough money, so i decided to put them off till next time. well guess what i got, right smack dab in the middle of the polyps AIPTASIA! UUGGGHHHH!!!! i dont want to use chemicals, how can i get rid of it? The polyps that it is in contact with, are a bit swollen! And in the bag, i saw 2 more aiptasias on the plastic strip!

Yep, peps do the trick. I still have a couple very small aptasia in my tank, but neither threaten any of my corals. My shrimp, on the other hand, are beefly, healthy and spunky! The second food hits the water they all come flying out of the rocks and start scurrying around like mad. They're a great addition to the tank.

Fishkid,
If you don't have any kalk. you can also try boiling water and inject that into the little devils. I have also heard of people injecting them with vinegar but I have no experience with it. Good Luck, Skip |

Fishkid - aiptasia is common - not a big deal. It's almost impossible to screen rock to prevent it. I'd say it's on more live rock than it's not.
Kalk is pure calcium (well calcium hydroxide to be technical) so it won't hurt your tank at all. You can use pickling lime as well (it's the same thing) - you can get pickling lime at the grocery store. Pepermint shrimps are not reef safe. They might just find your corals and polyps tasty as well. I've also seen one pull apart a feather duster. The kalk will take care of your problem in a jiff. Mike
