Smile Increasing flow with less head?

Okay, I am going to be plumbing in my Dolphin 3600 this weekend and wanted to get some opinions. I have been told that you can get up to 500gph extra by using large diameter plumbing to the pumps inlet. This makes sense, but is that number realistic? The pump is plumbed with 1.5" fittings. I can either run a 1.5" or a 2" line out of the sump to the inlet. What is your experience with this? Is it worth it in terms or flow increase?

Thanks
