Great little reef fish

This is a picture of my Carpenter Fairy Wrasse. They make a great reef safe fish that is not expensive and doesn't get too large. It is quickly becoming one of my favorite fish!

Regards,
Kevin

Hi Scott,
Yes they can be jumpers especially in tanks less than 24" tall. It also depends on their tank mates. If kept with peaceful smaller fishes they tend not to jump. Other types of fairy wrasses likes the Scott’s are more likely to jump.

Regards,
Kevin

Hey Charlie,
It is in the 450 at the store. I hope it will continue to flash its reflection in the front pane of the tank.

Regards,
Kevin

Kevin,

That's a gorgeous fish but it's a flasher wrasse, not a fairy wrasse.

WOW! That is a GORGEOUS fish for sure.

DO you think I could put one or 2 in with my Solarensis? The color has faded drastically on him/her since it is the only wrasse in the tank.

Over here they run about US$35 (AU$46). I have no idea how much they run where you are.

You are correct my bad :slap:

I sell them for $24.99. You can put several in a tank but it is best to put them in all at once. They can be housed with some of the Fairy wrasses like the solarensis.

Regards,
Kevin

The males are much more colorful than the females and have more extended dorsal fins. However, since they're protogynous hermaphrodites, females will eventually become males anyway unless they are restrained by the presence of a dominant male.

Males are much more common in the trade than females because they are more colorful and more desirable from that standpoint. In fact, it's usually very difficult to find females in either the flasher wrasses or the fairy wrasses.

If you're talking about a 220-gal tank, I suggest you get at least three or four of the same species -- either all females or one male and the rest females. Do NOT get more than one male. If you get all females (assuming you can find them), the more dominant female will become a male.
