bluejaw triggers = reefsafe
Anyone have any experiences with Bluejaw triggers in a reef tank? They are supposed to feed on zooplankton.

Ok i think if you get it use to eating fish food in a different tank and then introduce inverts slowly like snails and emerold crabs they are the most inexpensive. You can try and put some shrimps like cleaner shrimps and just sit back.watch it close and see if the inverts perish then you will know...Now if you get past that you are doing better then most people as you might see below my reply. But, do not think it is over yet i also would not put this fish in your reef with clams, pull out your clams if can and put it in a freinds tank or where-ever you can feel safe with it. Put Bluechin Triggerfish in reef and watch it close.. If all is good you will see all snails and shrimp ext.living then after the fish is use to eating what you feed it then intoduce your clams back to the tank and watch close yet again or you could just throw it in there and see what happens... good luck
I would do this with any fish that is not a reef safe fish like Angelfishes and triggersfish. It also worked well with Lactoria cornta aka Longhorn Cawfish and Sargassum and Pinktail triggers..let us know and pix would be nice. |

It is very rare that the Bluejaw triggers bother anything. I have a pair in my tank and have sold 30 or so to full reef customers without any reports of them bothering anything. Make sure to see it eat before purchasing as they can be difficult to get eating. Once they eat they soon turn into hearty feeders. They do not move the rockwork or dig. They can be kept with small fish. They eat pretty much everything once acclimated but they tend to hide and be very shy for the first few weeks. Freeze dried plankton is a good food to start them on.
