Emperor Angelfish
Does anyone know if an Emperor Angelfish nip at mushrooms or a brain coral?

I don't have any experience with Pomacanthus imperator but here is what fishbase has to say about them and I noticed when I visited the Waikiki Aquarium that they keep them in reef tanks there. See here and here.

Let me know if that fishbase link works for you. For some reason or other, I can't seem to access fishbase right now even though I accessed it five minutes ago.
Now I'm getting this crazy message: You are not authorized to view this page The Web server you are attempting to reach has a list of IP addresses that are not allowed to access the Web site, and the IP address of your browsing computer is on this list.

I'm able to get on fishbase now. I guess they changed their minds about my IP address?
P.S. -- I was beginning to wonder if the NSA (Hi!) was blocking my access to the internet?

Thanks again for the quick reply Ninong.... I have a 110 gallon with a few mushrooms a brain coral, a couple of very small polyps and a small finger coral. I have been thinking about adding a few more fish:
1. Emperor Angelfish 2. Powder Brown Tang 3. Butterfly of some sort. The problem is that I plan to add a few more coral and dont them to be gobbled up by the fish. If there is not a problem with the Emporer, can you recommend a butterfly? |

I don't think I would put an Imperator angelfish in a 110-gal tank. I think that's too small.
You might try a Chelmon rostratus (Copperbanded Butterflyfish) but it's not 100% reef-aquarium safe all the time and they can sometimes be difficult to get acclimated to eating commercial foods. If you get one, make sure it's feeding at the LFS before you buy it.

Ninong,
I have actually considered the copperbanded but i have read too many stories of people that cant get them to eat and the LFSs here in Palmdale CA dont cary them so i would have to order over the net. Anyhow, maybe you can help me finish off my fish collection. I have a 110 gallon with a 40 gallon refuge, no water quality problems what-so-ever. In addition to the corals i mentioned above, I have a yellow tang, O. Clown, blue/green chromis and a scooter blenny. I would like a couple larger colorful fish to top off the tank, any suggestions? |

I like Copperbanded Butterflyfish but I wouldn't buy one unless I saw it eating first. I almost bought one a few years back but the LFS couldn't get it to eat frozen brine. They were trying to tell me that it ate live brine but I know for a fact that they didn't have any live brine.
I love Flame Angelfish (Centropyge loriculus) in spite of the fact that they are not always 100% reef-aquarium safe. I also like the Coral Beauty Angelfish (C. bispinosa). I have experience with both of those species without problems but they are definitely risky. I love all of the Cirrhilabrus spp. fairy wrasses. They are my favorite fish. They're all jumpers, so you have to make your tank jump-proof before buying any of these. I like Pseudochromis fridmani because of it's coloration. Mine was very well behaved and didn't cause any problems but you have to be careful what you keep with it. P.S. -- You may want to avoid any more "large" fish for that size tank. Your yellow tang is going to get fairly large as it is. It might be better to stick with fish that are no larger than typical fairy wrasses.
