How many inverts in a tank?

There are pretty good rules about how many fish we can put in a tank, but how many crabs, shrimps and so on can we keep - or isn't there a hard and fast rule. I'm excluding corals at this stage, but I suppose there is a limit there too.

For instance, I'd like to keep a couple of Lysmata Amboinensis but I assume that they need a specific are to themselves..? It's all good stuff, and this bug bites me deeper every day, but I'm stuck for help on this one. :slap:

There are no hard and fast rules. It all depends on the size of the tank, the equipment and the bioload that the system can sustain. In addition to that, one must consider the compatibility of the animals.

In the case of Lysmata amboinensis, it's OK to add two of those to almost any size tank. I see no good reason for keeping only one of this species.

Neat! I was rather hoping you'd say that. The nauplii would make good food for the fussy eaters. Over here we say, "I owe you a pint for that" but at this rate it's going to be the entire brewery!
