Aiptasia Anemones

Hi all,

I'm starting to get a bloom of Aiptasia Anemones and while they look great I'm worried about the ramifications down the road as they continue to reproduce. Can anyone recommend the best way to rid my tank of these pests.

I've read that scarlet hermits may work well in addition to peppermint shrimp(which I have no experience with and am worried about their potential to eat my corals), but I've also read about using a lemon juice injection.

Any thoughts or assistance would be appreciated

Do you have a reef or a fish only tank?

Welcome to Reefland by the way

I have used a Kalkwasser paste to get rid of the little guys also. The best method I have found tho is an auriga butterfly (threadfin). I had a real bad aiptasia problem in my 80 gallon softie tank, it only took him about 3 weeks to totally eradicate the problem. Of course, there are risks with this fish, as they sometimes tend to think corals are pretty juicy items also.
Depending on how many you have, the kalk paste is the best non-natural method I have used. HTH

Send a message via MSN to Samper
joes juice is too expensive when compared to limewater paste.

There are a lot of things that will work provided you can reach the little beasties to inject them: Boiling water, lemon juice, vinegar, concentrated Kalkwasser, muriatic (hydrochloric) acid, etc. Obviously you can do as many as you want with injections of boiling water without causing any changes in the water parameters of the tank but you have to limit how many you do at one time when using an acid or a strong base like concentrated Kalkwasser.
