Not difficult to keep. They enjoy moderate to high light, low to medium water flow. Pretty hardy. One note...very aggressive. Keep'em away from other corals. I did a lab project involving my Bubble and a Frogspawn. It killed the Frogspawn practically overnight.

I agree. my bubble really does not like water movement. when I move a powerhead and it inadvertenly gets more current it does not expand nearly as much as when the water is fairly calm around it. I have it placed off to the side of my PC lights and it is in great health. Really a hardy LPS.

I agree about the agressiveness of the bubbles. Make sure you give it plenty of room. Mine used to be just a bit too close to my red open brain and it sat there all day with its stingers out looking "mean". Now its in a time-out in the corner of the tank and not so threatening.
You should feed them. Mine takes shrimp from the grocery store and also shrimp pellets, when I don't have the fresh stuff.

Re: bubble coral

i have had a very nice piece of bubble coral which has been doing great. Although, now it is acting very strange and will not expand its bubbles. Is there something wrong? All my other corals are doing great and my two clownfish are doing great also so I assume there is nothing wrong with the water and the coral is not near a main water flow stream so I cannot figure out what is wrong!!! PLEASE HELP!

Hi haras2the3,

It is hard to tell without knowing more about the coral and your system. You might start a new thread with details about your system, etc. to see if we can help out.

However, is there anything else near it?

Re: bubble coral

the coral is about 3-4 inches away from a toadstool coral but has been doing fine for months that close to the other coral. I have a 60 gallon tank with a closed looped filter system. i have one power head (out-take) which my bubble coral isn't in direct contact with. I have a bunch of other corals in my tank and two clownfish. I'm not positive what type of light i have but the store which supplied me with all of my equipment says it is high quality and good enough for any fish or corals i want to own. Also, i keep the light on for 8 hours. My coral seems to be doing a little bit better today as some of the bubbles are expanding. I hope that helps.

Re: bubble coral

Bubble corals are some of my favorite corals. I agree with these posters that CAN BE fairly easy to keep if you have the right conditions for it.

This might help a bit: http://www.asira.org/plerogyraandphysogyra(bubblecoral)

Re: bubble coral

i have another question about bubble corals. is it ok that i don't feed them shrimp or other meat? do they need food or will they be ok without pellets or fresh meat? i was wondering if feeding my bubble coral will help it recover from whatever is wrong with it right now. i will do anything to help my coral!

Re: bubble coral

You should feed it. Even if you don't target feed it, you should at least broadcast feed the tank at night when the coral feeds.

Re: bubble coral

Any kind of chopped meaty seafood is good (chopped krill is good, so are mysis shrimp). Since bubble corals feed at night, you should feed it an hour or two after lights out or whenever the bubbles turn into tentacles. They're usually so good at prey capture that you don't have to target feed them. However, if it's not bringing out it's tentacles, you may want to try to target feed it for a few days (at night) just to get it going.

Re: bubble coral

i am getting some cleaner shrimp on friday and i will pick up some food for my coral then. Also, i am very happy to say that my bubble coral is doing better. I unfortunately can't observe my tank all day b/c i am at school but i asked my parents to look at the tank to see if anything strange was going on. Sure enough, my large toadstool coral was leaning over ontop of my bubble coral, and miraculously stood up straight when i got home from school, as if it knew i was coming! So, i moved my bubble coral today to a wide open area in my tank and it is doing much better already! Thanks for all the advice though and i am looking forward to seeing all my corals flourish now that they are in appropriate spots!

Thanks,
SARAH
