What a Pet store SHOULD be!

Well for my third trip to the new Preuss location, I brought my camera, and of course my son Logan. We went as part of the MMMC meeting, and what follows is a completely unsolicited review of what I think is the BEST place to buy just about anything animal!

Just walking up to the store, you know you are in for something special:

    Yes, that is a waterfall!

Once inside the store, you find a RIVER! This is just not any little stream either, I would guess it to be nearly 40 feet LONG! Here is a shot of the second water fall, inside the store!

Once you cross over the wood plank foot bridge, which I did not get a picture of, you find your self in the bird department. Every person in the "Bird Room" is friendly and I'll bet they really know their stuff too! (I don't know a thing about birds.) Check this out!:

How about a friendly staff member willing to make a 5 year olds day:

Once you are through the birds, check out the fish section! Holy cow! Now I really didn't plan on writing this review so I neglected the fresh water section, but check out these few images from the salt section:

Not impressed yet? How about the best looking seahorses I have ever seen!

Okay here is what I thought was THE COOLEST thing a LFS could ever do, I QT room! (I'll have to check Logan's camera, I must have been to excited about the coral propagation to get pictures of the QT tanks.) Anyway, get this, the fish are in QT for as long as it takes to be disease free. If that means a week, or a month, or whatever! And to be certain, one employee will suggest a fish is ready for sale, then a SECOND employee has to agree with the first before it goes out for sale! (How cool is that?)

I did mention coral propagation right? How about this:

Fresh water more your speed? Preuss' breeds all the livebearer stock you see out on the floor, mollies, swordtails, etc.... They are also do their own Angelfish, and Beta's too!

Now Preuss' also has a wonderful selection of furry critters, you will find them in an old BUS of all places, check these out:

How about a crashed airplane? To much you say.... Naw, it is in there!

And my last little tidbit, Preuss' has a CLASSROOM! They plan on having educational meetings on a variety of topics, from saltwater to freshwater, to small animals and birds/reptiles even! I didn't get a picture of the bleachers, but here is a few from the classroom itself, you may recognize a couple mugs in these pictures!

K back to the fish, Here is a quick shot of an 8ftx4ft reef that holds clams, softies, and some really cool fish, this is a shot from one end:

Oh, and how could I forget, what do you get when you ask your kid if he wants to make a trip to Lansing (a 45 minute drive for us) to go to the "fish store"?

    A big smile!

Thanks Rick, Steve, Kirby, and all the rest for making Preuss Pet's such a wonderful place to go! You guys have put your heart and soul into the store, and it really shows!

For those of you in the Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, and Indiana area, I would strongly urge you to make a trip, you won't regret it!

    VERY cool...

We have nothing like that in Phila/S. Jersey. There are some OK shops, but NOTHING on that scale. Thanks for sharing such cool pictures! I bet Logan can't wait to go back. Did you buy anything while you were there???

Thanks Sara, I took the camera as an impulse, not really for any good reason. When I got home and looked at what I had, I thought I could put together a decent photo tour.

Scott, you are welcome! I am sure you would have an absolute ball in the salt section! Just the saltwater area is bigger then most LFS that have been around here.

Rebecca, Logan has a ball every time we go! As for buying something, well I timed my visit just right... I got there for a meeting right at closing time! I did get a reptile light for Bailey, Logan's bearded dragon. I didn't leave myself enough time to SHOP in the fish section though.... On purpose!

Wow! Impressive store indeed, Mike. As Rebecca said already, we don;t have anything on such scale around our parts. Good thing you decided to take your camera ----> now we had a glimpse of the store, too. ;)
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

Logan took this shot of the feeder goldfish, all I did is a little crop and levels, otherwise this is straight outta the camera!

    Oops... that is the original...

Thanx for sharing Mike. It would be nice if there was something like that close to me. I know for a fact that it would make Christmas shopping alot more tolerable!!!

Your Welcome Charlie. The really hard part is staying AWAY from the store, especially since I have a 15% off coupon around here somewhere.....

You have no idea how cool it is Clownfishcrazy ;) .... I don't think there are many stores like this one ANYWHERE!
