Where should I point my powerheads?

Hey guys, I was wondering if I should place both of my Maxi-jet 1200's on the bottom in opposite ends of my tank(46 gal bow) or one on top and one at the bottom. I also have my return from my Rene filstar xp3 comeing in at the top left of the tank pointed at an angle towards the front middle of the tank. My last question on this is do you think that 2 maxi 1200's and the rena is too much flow or does that depend on what I plan on having in the tank?

def not a pro but a 46bow is tuff afa circulation. I would say many smaller pheads is best. the front glass slows down flow like nothin' so I'd point them at 45 degrees out of the corners and maybe even add a few. .02

Hi Rhino,

You are correct, a lot will depend on what organisms you are planning to keep in that tank, and if you have sand bed in there or not.
Otherwise, no, it is not too much flow for the 46g tank. If anything( if you don;t have sand in the tank), I would add couple of smaller PH at the bottom. This should help keep detritus in suspension longer so skimmer can have more time to help in removing it before it starts to break down. I know that Tunze makes great little power heads for nano tanks. I actually use one in my 75g tank.
