sea salt and reef tanks
hi everyone:
Just a question on sea salts for reefs. I was previously using the regular Tropic Marine, it's a good high grade salt but I wanted to switch to a salt formulated more for reefs, was going to swith to tropic marine coral pro but my LFS say they don't stock it any more, they say can't move it maybe because it is expensive, next best thing I could find is Red Sea Coral Pro. Does anyone one have an opion on this brand it is also cheaper than Tropic Marine. I just want to make sure I am using a good quality salt. Best Regards Ken |

Unless you are having problems with Tropic Marin, I see no reason to change to any Red Sea brand.

No not really havin probs with tropic marine, I tryin to stablize my calcium always seems to be a little on the low side so I thought using a coral pro salt with calcium would help, I do also have a calcium generator. maybe the way I'm reading the calcium test, I have some color probs with sight and find it little hard to read. I use the fast test from instant ocean to test cal.
thanx ninong ken |

I wouldn't change salts either, there are plenty of other ways to increase calcium if needed.
You say you have a calcium generator, I assume you mean a calcium reactor? |

I suggest you switch test kits instead of salts. I like LaMotte test kits for both calcium and alkalinity but many people choose Salifert test kits for calcium and alkalinity. Salifert is cheaper than LaMotte but both work on the same principle.
P.S. -- In an article published in the September 2004 edition of Advanced Aquarist, an online magazine, Tropic Marin tested lowest in heavy metals of all salts tested. The test was conducted by the Chief Scientific Officer for the company that makes Instant Ocean.
