    shrimp choice help please

I'm putting together a 30 gal. mini-reef for my office (a few fish but mostly some softies and maybe a hardy LPS or two). I would like to have a shrimp "in the mix," but assume that I only have room for one. I have it down to a Peppermint Shrimp (Lysmata wurdemanni) or a Skunk Cleaner Shrimp (Lysmata amboinensis). Any thoughts?

You have room for two shrimp. Of those two species, I would go with two Lysmata amboinensis. Any two will form a pair.

    Good luck!

I agree with Ninong with the cleaner shrimp. My cleaner will eat out of my hand and is a blast to watch. My personal preference would be to only have one and maybe a coral banded shrimp (Stenopus hispicusas) as well. Both of mine get along just fine.

I wouldn't put a Banded Coral Shrimp (Stenopus hispidus) in a 30-gal tank with any other shrimp. It's too aggressive to share such a small tank with any other ornamental shrimp.

I know that camel shrimp aren't the best shrimp on the market...
but I have a 40gal reef that is clean as a whistle, and I only have one.
I'm certainly not very experienced yet,but having one has led to an almost "personal" friendship with the little garbage eater. my shrimp's name is "Joe Camel"
    good luck,
    John

They're not the best choice for a reef aquarium because they're corallivores.
