can i change sand but save the life?
when i first started my tank i didnt know about sillica sand leeching and what not, but now upgradeing my tank i want to get Arragonite sand, but i have lots of life in my current sand bed and it seems a waste to just flush it all away.
is there anyway i could keep the life but not the sand? i have thorght about a fine sive but that would only keep the larger life forms does anyone else have a better idea? cheers james ![]()

Hi wozza,
You can save some 1/2 inch of the top layer of your current sand bed, providing that particle size and distribution is acceptable for your new sand bed. Everything else should be discarded. Here's a link to an article that will help you understand the working of properly constructed sand bed, animals that live in it and so on. How Sand Bed Really Works
