Clams

I recently purchased two crocea clams and have been having trouble finding a definete answer on whether or not they should be on the sand bed or anchored to a rock higher up in the tank. Can anyone settle the debate?

I was also told if their mantle's are fully extended well beyond the edge of their shells that they are not getting enough light. Is this true?

Crocea is the most light demand of the clams. They can be place either on sand or rock. The question is light. If you have at least 250 W Mh your clams will be OK in the sand under the MH. If you have less light, then they will do better on the rock.
I always place clams in the sand for the first month or so, so I can take them out to check for parasitic snails. Once I am sure that there are no parasitic snails with the clam, I place the clam where I wanted to place it.

I have 3 175 w mh and 2 160 w vhos... I would think that should be enough for them?

I did however notice a thing on the side of my little guy and someone told me it was a vhemetid snail <sp>??? I have pictures of it.. It has a hard shell incasing and when it comes out it has a sort of T shaped head with the ends of the T being these sort of clear tubes..... Is that something I need to remove from him? If it is how would I go about doing that?
