Hi all I am considering re aqua scaping my tank and was wondering what are your thoughts on doing this kind of thing, I am a little disappointed in the appearance of my set up at the moment and believe that I can improve upon it, what are your thoughts on doing this kind of thing and how would you go about it
thanks dobz |

Hi dobz,
I've done it on a couple of occasions without incident. All I did was is to prepare some saltwater in separate tub, large enough to hold your corals if they have to be removed. Make sure to equalize temperature and PH, plug in a heater if they to be there for a spell( not sure you'll need this since you live in Melbourne ). Work quickly enough to rescape your rockwork. I tried not to remove any rock from the tank without placing it in the water immidietly for the fear of killing small sponges and other sensitive organisms, hence incorporating few different tubs of salt water. All in all things went smoothly and life went on mostly unaffected after everything was done. If you have deep sand bed try not to disturb it at all as it may release some of the organics( if the sand bed is old enough) which may spur some of the algal growth for a while, it did in my case. If you don;t need to move bottom pieces of rock then there is no problems. Oh, and don't forget to wear gloves-you never know what may be living in/on your rocks. Especially ones that are burried in the sand. I managed to spoof a large Amphinomid that could've stung my hand badly if I touched it accidentally. ![]()

The gloves particularly due to the possible venomnous critters such as some fireworms, starfish, corals and other invertebrates. Also, some neurotoxins care free floating your tank in trace amounts. So it is always best to be safe, seal any and all lacerations or open wounds and wash your hands throughly after you are done.
