Will the arrow crab in my tank harm the bristle worms, mama mia worms, and amphipods that I just got from IPSF?

I'm none of the above, but I believe I've heard arrow crabs will eat various polychaetes worms for sure (bristleworms & moma mia worms).

Hi Orion

First off Mikeman, and Ravenmore are correct and IMO are just as qualified to answer this or any other question for all that matter .....IMO Arrow crabs are VERY cool (I had one when I started out), however they will wreak havoc on any reef tanks I would think mine had a hiding place and it would bite off and hide button polyps and mushrooms Yes they do eat bristleworms if you put them in a tank im sure they will dine on your new $100+ detrivore kit and then ask for more

I forgot to add this:

I once was reading something on the Arrow Crab that their front claws are used like spears and they can spear small fish very easily for food too....they are just like any other crab IMO oppurtunist/scavengers....they dont care what it is they will eat it.....all tast like chicken to them

actually, it is the spear on the top of the head(has some special name) that it impales little fish like chromis, clowns, damsels Of course my lfs says "they are useful in controlling bristleworms"

orion25,

I agree with the above observations. Arrow crabs are opportunistic feeders and will dine on your detrivors.

They have also been known to eat yellow polyps and various mushrooms.

When they get big, they can go after fish also.

Don't get me wrong, I love them, but after he ate a cleaner shrimp and one peppermint shrimp plus countless little worms, he ahd to go, if only I had a 10g tank with nothing in it maybe I could.......

Well the Arrow Crab is swimming in the Huntsville sewer system now. He was cool with a good personality. Too bad he has an appetite that is incompatiable with my reef.

I Personally wouldnt have flushed him! You could have taken him back to the fish store, probably even got credit for him too

Taking him to my LFS would be about the same as flushing him . I also have a coral banded shrimp. Will he eat the worms? If I need to remove him I will take him to a fish store that is not exactly "local." It is about 45 min from here. I like the owner but I do not get to go there often due to distance.

Thanks,
Ryan

Was that intentional?

Penguin,

Must have been a Freudian slip.

My fingers seem to be disconnected from my brain lately.
