Green isn't too bad; brown indicated a water quality issue. Has your tank matured? The Mature Aquarium
If the aquarium has not matured, you may need to give it more time to settle down in order to determine if there is a problem with these algae or not. If the tank is mature, then you want to identify and reduce the nutrients these nuisance algae live on. They all need nutrients, circulation, and light. They will grow even in low light, so trying to starve them with light usually doesn't work alone. They need nutrients such as nitrates, phosphates, organics, gas, and trace elements. Such nutrients come from things you add to the tank including, but not limited to: foods, replenishment water, additives, and water changes. Some come from other sources, like marine life, rotting organics, and organics in general, dissolved in the water. The brown type finds it hard to grow in a mature tank with very good circulation. A reef tank needs about 20x the tank volume turn-over every hour. Check on the above and let us know some additional information and maybe someone here can spot the problems.
