Too much flow?
is there such a thing, is it subjective?
i have a 36"x18"x18" with a 23gal sump in the main tank i have 4 MJ900's and the return from the sump kicking out 2300lph at 1m head so the maths is: (4x900)+2300=5900 5900/190(tank vol)=31 is this to much flow? i dont have a sand storm what do you think? cheers james

James,
I don't believe, personally, that you can have too much flow in the tank. You may have too much velosity coming out from some of your power heads, that is possible, so be careful not to place anything too close to the output as velosity from the ph can strip tissue clean off. Otherwise you should be safe, especially if you consider that sand is staying in place. ![]()

Zhenya well put on velosity.
You must remember not all corals like just one type of flow or range. Pick you coral and apply the correct range. |

I agree, it depends on the type of reef aquarium you are creating. As long as you don't have high velocity, I think it is impossible to have too much flow. We ran our 75 gallon (bare bottom) with 2-Tunze Stream 6060's, 4 MJ 1200's and a Mag Drive 700 for the return pump. I think we could have used more flow.

ok thanks,
well my new tank is up and running now with all the life in it that was in my previous tank give or take a bristle worm or two ![]() and with the return and 4 MJ900's it seems it will be ok with a bit of cleaver pointing of power heads. cheers james
