Jelly fish reef safe?

has anyone any experience with Jellyfish stinging corals ? I put a jelly fish in my coral reef tank 90 gals and it not only stung and killed many of my corals .. it also stung the sand sifting star fishes and they are not dead but in semi dead state ..
I had to remove the jellyfish ..though a beautiful aquarium critter.

any feedback greatly appreciated

It seems like you got the information you were seeking through experience.

You posted this in the Fish-Only Aquariums Forum. You may want to post this in the Reef Aquariums Forum.

Jellyfish have been known to sting whatever marine organism they contact. The effects differ by the one getting stung. Some jellyfish sting and eat small fish. I guess it depends on the kind of jellyfish it is as to how it would react in an aquarium. I should think that, being creatures used to the open sea, many of which travel on sea currents, that they need the diversity of the open sea to sustain their life -- or at least a lot of room.

Did you really put a jelly in your tank? Did you see "Finding Nemo"?

Since you are talking about things that travel on the sea currents.

Is it possible to have any kind of sea turtles in an aquarium? My girlfriend wont stop bugging me about it. I tell her that it is impossible for a saltwater tank.

I have to admit I was a little embarrassed to ask,but the topic came(sort of)

As long as your tank is in the hundreds of thousands of gallons, I don't see why not. I see them kept in Zoo's almost everywhere I go!

You'll need to have a research permit to keep protected species too.
