    Skimmer

    All,

    Great site.

I have a question regarding protein skimmers. I just added salt to my aquatium and my skimmer has kicked into overdrive. It is producing a lot of dirt. I was wondering if this is normal. I have nothing in the aquariom at this point.

    Thanks,

    Adam

    Re: Skimmer

    Hi Adam and

Yes this is normal for a freshly setup tank. There is some dirt in the water that the skimmer will remove, and if you have a cloud from a sand bed, then the skimmer will really produce a lot while it helps to clean the water. Nothing at all to worry about.

    Re: Skimmer

I have a 210 G tank with a Aqua Clear Aquatics Pro 300 Wet/Dry filter with build in skimmer. I seem to be having a lot of issues with the collection bottle overflowing. Probably just not set up right.

    Thanks,

    Re: Skimmer

Are you setting up a reef, or fish-only aquarium? If a reef, you should do some research on using the wet/dry filter (and these types of units with built in skimmers aren't usually good skimmers).

    Re: Skimmer

I like to keep it simple, so a high quality protein skimmer, good quality liverock, frequent water changes, and some carbon and filter floss ran occassionaly.
