My Xenia is going crazy and my Leather is killing my clam;P
I know its been a while but I need some advice fellow reefers. My Xenia has taken over about a quarter of my 55, I culled it once really well and it just seemed to piss it off. Also, I have a finger leather that is getting so big that its blocking my deresa. The clam is staying half closed and getting no light. Its foot is in rock and I can't move him. Will he let go himself if he gets pissed enough. FYI other than these small issues the tank is doing awesome the DSB is kickin all of the corals are growing and happy. I love my clam and I guess I'm gonna let the zenia crash? I don't know what else to do. I hope some of you still remember me.
Keep the Faith, Augustus

Hello,
The clam needs to be moved to where it will receive the proper lighting or it will likely starve. You can use an exato knife or razor blade to cut it from the rock. Cut as close to the rock as you can.The Xenia can be manually removed but is very labor intensive. HTH, Kevin

Thanks for the reply, I took your advise on the clam. I cut as close to the rock as possible and I hope he is ok. He would have surely died had I did nothing. As for the xenia I'm tired of fighting it. I have a piece of frogspawn that is keeping it from overrunning the whole damn tank, but I'm just gonna let it go till it crashes I guess. I'm fed up with it. If anyone has a better idea please let me know.

It just keeps comming? Do I just have to keep culling it the rest of my life?? what is the answer? Won't it eventually choke itself out?

Re: My Xenia is going crazy and my Leather is killing my clam;P
...just my two cents here......but I had a tank with an over abundance of cabbage leather and a large population of xenia. There seemed to be a chemical war going on between those two creatures that would rival even the bast laid plains for terestrial chemical warfare. They were basically choking everything else out in the tank. I eventually got it in check, but it took over a month, alot of cutback colonies, and pounds of carbon. So, with that small experience, I would not recommend those two habitants in the same tank.
