Probably a stupid monti question...

When should you start seeing growth on monti frags? I received 4 different color (teal, orange, purple, green) monti digitatas and 2 monti caps (green and peach on the first one and pink rimmed green for the 2nd cap) yesterday. I am seeing really good polyp extension but how will I know when they start growing?

Re: Probably a stupid monti question...

It could take two or three weeks for you to notice new growth. Often the new growth will show up at the base of the frag first. It will start to spread out where it is attached. This is true if you attached a cut edge of the frag to the rock. If you attached the M. capricornis frags from the underside of the skeleton, then just look at the edges of the frag for new growth.

And on the digitatas the new growth on the tips is usually a whitish color correct? I am just amazed at how many of the polyps came out within 30 minutes of putting them into the aquarium. I thought it would take days to see polyps.

Yep, the growth on M.digitatas are usually on the tips of branches and could be white or yellowish in color, at least on my green digitatas it is. This corals are pretty hardy as "sps" corals go and you should see some new growth on them in a few weeks, like Ninong said before.
