From overflow to Skimmer

Is it possible to run the overflows directly to the skimmer intake or would it be best to just let them dump out by the intake?

You should dump out by the intake.

Re: From overflow to Skimmer

I've always ran my systems that way but I just got to thinking it might benefit to feed the skimmer directly from the overflow just so long as the pump didn't get too much or too little flow. I think dumping it beside the intake does about the same thing.

Re: From overflow to Skimmer

Chuck, I think some of the newer, recirculating skimmers are run directly from the overflow. I think Geo and some others are made to be run with a very slow flow through. I can't remember exactly where I had seen particular thread describing this skimmers, must be on the Reef Central vendors forums or something.

Re: From overflow to Skimmer

So I guess it would be best with my Euro Reef 8-2 to just dump the drain as close as possible to the skimmer intake.

Chuck, I think that would be your best bet. If anything, give the guys at Euro Reef a holler and see what they'll tell you. In my humble opinion your skimmer is probably not set up for slow flow and bubbles dwelling time, IIRC.
