a little marshall mystery

my wonderful man and i have recently started setting up a 90 gallon reef system. all we have in it at the moment is four different kinds of live rock. we have one fairly large piece of marshall island rock that has a form of algae growing on it that has us (and several aquarium authors and retailers) stumped. what is it? who knows! it grows from a single very dark green thread-like sprout and has a green fan (resembling a palm from a palm tree) at the end. right now they are about 3/4" tall/long. is it a friend or a foe? if anyone has any idea, let me know. (by the way, they grew to this length from nothing in about three days.)

As wozza indicated already, it sure would help if you could provide picture of the algae in question. Having said that, I don't think that any algae that grows this quick would be welcome in my tank, simply for the reason that it may overtake my tank. ;)
