Hello All

This is my first time, so be gentle. Is this where I ask a question? Or is that what I just did

Re: Hello All

I'm getting my first tank, a used oceanic 72g bowfront. It got a ASM G1 skimmer,RIO 32HF pump, sump, and Coralife 4x96.How's that sound to start?

Re: Hello All

Four 96w PC fluorescents is adequate for a 72-gal aquarium. Some people might choose a bit stronger lighting but your lighting is adequate for a lot of different corals, including many SPS.

I'm not familiar with your skimmer and I don't have a good opinion of any Rio pumps.

Re: Hello All

Does that mean RIO pumps are not something you'd recommend?

Re: Hello All

It just means I wouldn't buy a Rio pump, that's all. I'm not fond of them based on reading reports on the various reefkeeping bulletin boards over the years.

Re: Hello All

So many questions, sorry. The old owner is including about 80# of live fiji pink premium sand, how soon must I get water in the tank after the move?

Re: Hello All

This is a used tank?

Was it set up previously as a saltwater aquarium?

Are you getting anything that is "alive" with the tank? Like live rock, for instance?

Re: Hello All

Yes it's a used tank. Yes it was a saltwater tank, and the only thing live now is the sand. Which the owner says is cured. hank

Re: Hello All

Did this "live" sand come out of his tank?

Re: Hello All

If the sand was in his tank, then it will still remain "alive" for a certain period of time provided the ambient room temperature doesn't drop too low and provided it is kept moist with saltwater from his tank. It's not the beneficial bacteria that you have to worry about, it's any tiny microcrustaceans or tiny polychaetes that may still be alive that won't last long without the sand getting back into a tank with saltwater soon.

If the sand is kept moist with water from his tank, it will still be good for days but the sooner you set up the tank and get it running again the better.

Re: Hello All

Thanks again, Ninong. I've got to go and get the tank now. I'll let you know how things progress.
