is this guy okay to keep?

i have had my nano reef up appx 6 months, and this little guy appeared this week... i havent had any luck identifying it so any help would be appreciated!
i thought it might be some sort of worm, but the outline does not change...he is between 1/4'' and 1/2'' across, and the colours are true..
WOOT! i love this hobby/obsession!

I forget the exact name but it is a type starfish that repoduces by dropping a leg here and there. They are nothing to worry about. I have them in my tank although I rarely see them.

Hi tush,

I think what you have is a small Asterinid starfish. There are few species in the genus and some are harmless algae grazers while some are predatory on sessile invertabrates like corals. I would just keep an eye on it and see how it behaves and where exactly it goes. If you find it camping on healthy coral tissue then you know that you have a predatory type.

Nice pic- it looks like the ones I've got in my tank. Mine are harmless. Hopefully yours will be the same! It's fun to watch the population rise and fall- they usually come out at night after the lights have been off for a few hours.

Looks exactly like the ones in my system. Mine are harmless and reproduce easily. Keep an eye on them just in case though.
