As far as the QT being a moot point, you should read Leebca's sticky thread on QT, definately not a moot point.

On another note, I too like the aquascaping. Eventually I'll be happy enough with my own to post a pic.

Good luck.
When I got the tank it had been up and running for 2+ years. The rock and sand were well established. I improved the plumbing, added a larger sump and better pumps as well as a skimmer. I tried to get the tank to cycle but it stayed stable. A friend who is helping me has a degree in marine biology and 15 years of experience advied me to move forward. I am new to saltwater but I trust his judgement. I had him test everything to make sure I wasn't doing anything wrong and he said it was good to go.

Re: My fist saltwater tank!

As far as the Tang there are conflicting opinions on the size of tank needed for this species. I have read everything from 40g to 90g minimum. If he gets too large too fast I'll give him to my friend with several much larger systems to hold for me. Once this is stocked and a proven system I'll put it in my son's room. I have plans for a much larger system where this one currently resides. This week I'm going to add some blue legged hermits then monitor it for about two weeks before adding any corals. There only some small feather dusters and a few muchroom polyps left over from the previous owner. They are doing fine and so far the emerald crabs are leaving them alone. They did find the hair algae I missed on the live rock and began mowing it down. The red leg hermits are cleaning non stop and the fish seem very happy and healthy.
