New Tank
I am new to saltwater tanks and interested in starting a salt water tank. I was thinkin like a 20 gallon long or bigger like a 30gallon tank. I want some rock for hiding ect. The main thing though is the fish I want to put as many clowns as possible with annenomes but not so many there fighting. I also want a frogfish. I was planning on using sand for the bottom if thats even possible with what I want.
I prolly sound like a huge dumbass but I guess you gotta start somewhere Thanks for your time Phil |

Re: New Tank
hmmm... well i think im correct in saying this, in a tank as small as a 30gal you could only have 2 clowns in there without fighting, and with the anemone you would need powerful lighting (i.e. 150w MH etc..).
if you got a frogfish im pretty sure it would eat your clowns when it got big enough. and sand is perfectly fine for a substrate. cheers james ![]()

Re: New Tank
Hi Phil,
![]() I agree with James that in a tank that is 20-30 gallons there won't be enough space for too many fish, any fish. Least of all clownfish. And yes, the frogfish is not a good community fish. Having said that, you can have quite successfull salt water aquarium that is 20 or 30 gallons, you just have to research more on your stocking options. My advice would be that if you want clownfish then you stick to one anemone and a pair of clownfish that is compatible with your anemone of choice. In a tank this size I think Entacmaea quadricolor would probably be the best bet for success. You can always find tank raised specimen if you look around in your area;s marine or reef club. That alone encreases your chances significantly of anemone surviving and doing well. Look for more information on anemones and clownfishes here
