what lights can i use for my BTA?

in sept this year i will have to move to go to uni and most likely put my current set up in to storage .
But i realy want to keep my two clowns and the anemone as i know it will be a life time untill i manage to find anything that looks as good as the current live stock i have. i will not be able to keep my MH down there other wise i would not have a problem.
The max size tank will be about 24-30" long and 12" wide probly 15" tall.

what is the best kind of lighting to keep the anemone?

cheers james

James,

E.quadricolor are quite adaptive to many lighting schemes and if you can have either VHO, PC or the T5 fluorescent lighting over that tank, I think your anemone has a good chance of adapting to this lighting. Keep in mind that you may need to feed it a bit more untill it does adapt to the light intensity of the new set up.

cheers Gene,

55w 21" Marine White 14000k

how may of these do you think i would need to use?
i reckon i could fit 4 of them over the tank, 220W that is more than i have at the moment, would i get away with just two of them giveing me 110W as it will be quite a shallow tank?

cheers james

Re: what lights can i use for my BTA?

James,

I'm personally not a big fan of PC bulbs and use VHO bulbs whenever possible.
But I digress... If you could get two more bulbs and incorporate them over that size tank it would be enough lighting for your anemone. Plus, if you would feed it two or three times a week it would live quite happily in the tank.

i was just thinking that you get more wattage for length with PC.

I thought you only have two at the moment and this is why I suggested getting two more bulbs, hence giving you the 55w x 4 = 220w over that tank, sorry if I caused more confusion then needed...
I know it may sound like a alot of light but none of this wattage can compare to MH lighting penetration of water column. I figured if your tank is 15" tall and your anemone settles somwhere in the middle of the reef structure, then you can get away with the PC lighting easy.
I mean, you can try with your two bulbs if that is what you have at the moment, and see how things progress with anemone, you can then add more light if you need it.

hey no worries , at the moment i dont own any lights other than my MH so any lights i do get will be a completely new purchase, if i went with the PC lights then i would get 4x55w so thats fine.
i have also been looking at this Arcadia Luminaire T5Mx4 24 what do you think to these just as good, better, worse?

Re: what lights can i use for my BTA?

James,
I've never used T5 bulbs so I can;t really comment on them. I imagine they can;t be any worse then PC bulbs and from what I have read so far they appear to be favored by many people over the PC fixtures. So, you may want to post your questions in regards to this fixture in the Lighting forum and see if anyone had any experience with them.
It looks pretty nice in the picture, for 170 quid it better be good.
