On Thurs I got my Market Leader cleanup crew from saltwaterfish.com
The shrimp seem to be doing okay as do the stars that I can see (do they always hide during the day?) I've already seen 3-4 dead scarlet crabs out of 25 and a few turbo snails as well. Is this something to worry about? 90 gal AGA, 95# of just-cycled rock, pH 8.2, temp 79-83, nitrites 0. nitrates trace, calcium 450. |

100% would be nice but unfortunately it almost never happens.. the scarlets may have molted or they may have been killed by other crabs for their shells, this is why we should always have an assortment of shell sizes available for growth...as afar as snails, how where they acclimated, they are very sensitive to changes and should be acclimated very slowly over a period of 1-2 hrs..then again they may have been killed by hermits for their shells as well...hth

I acclimated them per instuctions, it took a coupla hours. The weird thing is that one of the ones that died (a big one) was actually eating the first day but today was just laying in the shell, dead. Others seem to be doing okay. Another one may have been killed by the coral-banded shrimp, but i'm not sure. I will try to get some bigger shells, just in case.
I had assumed that shrimp are more sensitive to water conditions than the crabs. Not so? |
