If the shell looks like an armadillo then its a chiton....hard to tell w/out seeing the other side though
I believe they are harmless algae eaters

Seeing as how I'm staring at one in my sump right now (same view as your picture), I'd say that Scubadude is correct in the ID - chiton.

Yea have not been able to get a good shot of the other side but the pic's above are similar to what it looks like. Got him in some live rock a few months back fisrt time i have been able to take any pic's he dosn't get on the glass much. He hasn't harmed anything was just wondering what it was. Thanks guys

Some graze on rock, too, but all are harmless as far as corals, reefs go. I like them , cute, slow, ancient (living fossil) neat.

I have two of tese things in my tank. They are rusty in color with plated looking shell on their back. I watched them carefully. It appears that they are harmless algae eaters. They look like a Chiton, but are very small. My are about 1/2 inch long.
How big do they grow? |
