Question Seeking Suggestions for Anenome Substitutes

Rather than inevitably killing an anenome, I would like to add a coral that my pink skunk clowns might take to as a substitute. Please let me know if you've had any success with corals that clowns may take to as substitute hosts, where the coral didn't seem too bothered by the presence of the clowns?

I got a rock with some really thick, beautiful algae on it. It's not a coral, but Bobo loves it. As soon as he started forming a relationship with it, the algae looked healthier and healthier.

Burt,

My tank raised False Percula took to my Gonipora almost as soon as it went into the tank.

My tank raised perc. swims in all of my corals, he sleeps in my colt though. Anchor, zenia, mushrooms! He loves them all, he actually bites me when I get near any of them.

I think you will find that clowns are finicky. Our false perc hosted in a clump of red macro algae before I added the skimmer to reduce my tank time(now all the macros, 10 species, have withered away). The clown now sleeps near a powerhead. I have mushrooms, hammer, frogspawn, bubble coral, and a finger leather and the clown has shown no interest in the others.

My true perc has taken to xenia and an open brain.
For a while he was happy with a derasa clam.

Thanks for all your replies. I guess the answer is not to worry about finding a match, that the clowns will find something they like eventually. For now they sleep in a crevice between two pieces of live rock. I currently have torch, xenia, mushrooms, green star polyps, yellow polyps, open brain, finger sinulria and candy cane corals, but they are all small and recent additions. Maybe when they get bigger my clowns will choose a home.

You could try a richordia mushroom of decent size.

Actually, I have a flower pot coral and my clarki'i likes it. However, I have a bubble tip anemone and it kind of swims into each one. I would not recommend that they go into a goniopora (flower pot) because this will cause its polyps to be retracted all the time, not allowing them to feed and damaging them at the same time. I have heard of someone's goniopora actually die from this (not sure but a member of reefland bb). I have heard leathers, frogspawns, and xenia make great homes for clownfish. Each animal will have different tastes and character.

Good luck,
Ilham

I have anemones for our clown pair, but they chose a Hawaiian feather duster over everything else. Go figure!
