Do you guys know of any tangs that would be able to thrive in a 55 gallon reef tank?

I think the general consensus is that the smallest tank suitable for the long term housing of any tang is 90gal.
While myself keep a 3-4” scopas tang in a 55gal and by all accounts it seems happy, it will not be there for a lot longer as come September it will be re-housed to a larger tank somewhere else as im moving to go to uni.
Josh,
Sorry to break the news to you, but there is no tang that can thrive in a 55 gal tank...i currently have a small yellow tang in mine, but in talking with the wonderful ppl at Reefland have found the error of my ways. I am looking into having him go back to the store. Tangs require to much space to roam around and a 55 gal tank isn't enough. Even if it's a small one you will eventually need to find him a bigger home.
Sorry,
Garrett
Wozza were on the same time table
haha yep sure looks that way![]()
awww man, thats a shame. I knew that most tangs wouldnt be happy in a 55 gallon tank but I was hoping that maybe there was some dwarf or pygmy species that I dont know about. Ha ha ah well thanks for the help.
Well do you guys have any suggestions for an attractive, interesting fish that would thrive in a 55 gallon reef tank and be the center of attention? Any favorites that you guys could recommend?
here are a few links to my fave fish that could be in a 55g
Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse - Paracheilinus carpenteri
McCosker's Flasher Wrasse - Paracheilinus mccoskeri
Coral Beauty Angel - Centropyge bispinosus
Flame Angel - Centropyge loriculus
Anthias
Cardinals
Royal Gramma - Gramma loreto
I am in the same boat too, I have a 75g with a 4" Naso
He'll probably have to find a new home this summer as my plans for a bigger tank have fallen through...![]()

Click my avatar to see my tank, it's getting so perdy!!
Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach him how to fish and you get rid of him all weekend.
one of my favorite dwarf angels is the bicolor angel - but think all of wozza's suggestions are nice additions too.
i currently only have 4 fish in my 55 gallon: bicolor angel, 6-line wrasse and a pair of percular clowns. i think it is perfect. i am always on the lookout for one more addition, but have been quite happy with them for several months. i think the last addition will be a midas goby but i want to be 100% sure because that will be my last fish. i don't suggest over-crowding the tank because you must remember that the corals are animals too and so are any inverts that you have.
