Hey everybody! I have had the same fish stock for about a year now and think it's time to start making a final list to have for my tank. I have a 115 gallon reef with LPS, softies, and mushrooms. My current fish are a maroon clown, purple tang, sailfin tang, green mandarin, flame angel, and a pipefish (I know I know he does not belong in here but I have had him for about a year now with absolutly no problems, he scavanges around behind the rocks all day and comes out closer to the evening time). I am most likely going to add an anthias or so along with a few gobies and blennies. I was looking into adding a reef-safe trigger and possibly and interesting wrasse. Has anybody had any experience with either a cross-hatch or male blue jaw trigger in a reef? And would either of these fit my current fish list? Along I saw a neat leopard wrasse and a choati wrasse. How hard are these fish to keep and would one be alirght for my tank since I have had success with the pipefish and mandarin? Any input would be appreciated I just want to make sure I fully research all my options before buying anything. Thanks!

With the pipefish in there, I think you'd want to stay away from anything which could be remotely aggressive. I'd worry about a trigger or aggressive wrasse picking on it. A small wrasse, like a 6-line or something similar might be better.

Keep in mind that any Wrasse will outcompete your Mandarin and your Pipefish for the food that they need to live.

Does anybody know any information on a red tail tamarind? (Coris Wrasse)

Hi Bg!

If you're talking about this fish then it's probably not a good idea as they are one of the hardest fish to keep in captivity. If you're talking about a coris wrasse such as the coris formosa then the question arises; do you have any inverts? if so, then the coris is not a good idea either as it is not "reef safe" and will eat your inverts.

With that said, I think one of the fairy wrasses is a better choice for you, especially with the pipefish. Another great fish, and one of my personal favorites is the yellow candy hogfish which I think would also be a great fish for your tank.

Yea I confused the coris wrasse with the tamarind. That yellow candy hogfish is really nice however! I will def consider him... Thanks!

Yeah I've had several candy hogs in the past and they are definitely a great fish! very peaceful, and a very pretty fish. I also wanted to mention that the six-line wrasse probably isn't a good idea either. They can be extremely territorial and aggressive. I can't speak for everyone, but my six-line is a bastard and chases all my other fish around the tank.
