    Mantis shrimp anyone???

Well I bought this unassuming little frag with 2 mushrooms as an attempt to begin stocking the tank again. I have the clown fish in one QT and a blue dot jawfish in another, so I added the frag to the DT whiich will remain fallow for atleast another 2 months. Just my luck, I got a hitchhiker. OBVIOUSLY the reason to QT EVERYTHING.

Anyhow, he's(she) up for grabs. I'd rather give him to another Reefland member than the lfs. Just hope I get him before he gets my fire shrimp. Any advise?

    Thanks

    Rob

    Ugly little critter huh...

They sell traps that might work. The best bet is to follow the guy into a rock, and remove the rock for a quick freshwater dip to get him out of it, and then do whatever it is you plan to do with it. I'm not ready for a species tank to hold one myself...

I agree Scott, UGLY. More because of their nature than their looks. Anyhow, didn't take long to find someone interested.

Whatever you do, don't try to catch it by hand!! It can rip your hand open quicker than you can blink!!! Mantis shrimp are actually very cool. It's too bad they're bad for our reef tanks. I'd love to set up a species tank of a few. I've considered putting one in my refugium.

    Re: Mantis shrimp anyone???

I've had a 1.25" black mantis for quite a while about 6 months I guess, it was in my daughter's tank for a while and when she gave me her rock I ended up with the little guy then when I switched tanks I put him and his rock in and the next morning he was in the sump looking all frantic cuz he had nowhere to hide so I fetched him his rock and he lived there for a month. Just last week I gave him to another reefer who wanted him really badly, at least now I don't have to worry about putting my hand near his rock, here he is...

Click my avatar to see my tank, it's getting so perdy!!

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach him how to fish and you get rid of him all weekend.
