Re: my new project...what do you think?
Well, I think I figured it out (for now anyway) I built a small shelf to prop the skimmer up so the return lines are level with the tank top...
I was also thinking... wonder if I could build a small "tissue box" sized glass box and secure it in the tank, silicone it all up and then drill the tank glass to create an overflow??? I'd have to drill it in place, can that even be done? Hey Scott, what happens when I use up all my allowed attachment space? I'm already up to 4.5. Do I need to go to older posts and remove photos to make room? Can I even do that? Thanks

What if you just skip the collection cup, use one of those sealed angled tops, with a hole at the top.
![]() Of course you would have to DIY the top, but it may be just what you need to avoid the clearance issues. |

Re: my new project...what do you think?
poseidon, who makes that skimmer? How does it work? I see the vent at the top, is that where the skimmate drains into a remote container or where water is returned to the main taink? Would that skimmer be able to pump the water back up to the tank, about 1' up so that the return lines don't have to be level with the tank top? I'm not familiar with that type of skimmer...

That vent at the top is for the skimmate only. It can not pump up, but I thought as long as you could get the skimmate out of the skimmer, this would allow you to raise the skimmer so that the output is where it needs to be.

Oops, as for who makes it, I found it on Dr Foster and Smith, I'm not real sure of the name....

Re: my new project...what do you think?
thanks poseidon, I'll check them out. My Berlin has a plug in the collection also, but the skimmate is so thick & dark I wonder if it would clog and be more of a burden then a convenience...

Re: my new project...what do you think?
A couple of updated pics with the bar top I just finished. I also changed the exterior look for a more natural look. What do you think? The poly coat on the top is 1/8" thick. I have the stainless steel foot rest and high back bar stools coming soon. The rest of the bar will be stained & sealed soon also.
I've had very little luck hooking a skimmer into this tank. I'm looking at a Red Sea Prizm Pro 300 Skimmer, which is supposed to be for tanks up to 300 gal. I know nothing about these skimmers but it's the perfect H.O.B. skimmer to fit under the bar top. I've read a lot of mxed reviews here for the smaller prizm, but nothing on the Pro 300...
