after many trips to the hardware store(well over 10 and it is at least 20 min away)i thought that i had gotten my overflow to fonction with out a large waterfall sound....well i did but it seems that it did not want to cooperate with me and backed up so much that the maintank was overflowing( i was using a ball valve to slow flow through the overflow) so i am left with wet carpet and one of the largest frustion yet in this hobby , a piece of equipment that i am either going to return or trash, I am that tired of wet carpet and fiddling with the piece of junk.I am not going to state the name of the overflow's maker as i am trying to contact them for other solutions or see if i can return it.
so i was looking for any suggestions from you wonderful people. |

Could you give me some more details regarding your system? Type of overflow? Diameter? Sump size? Pump size? etc. I'll help if I can. Thanks.

Don't trash it yet. You tried to silence the noise by slowing down the siphon down. Slowed it too much and the pump out pumped the flow down and flooded your carpet. The ball valve is not the right valve to get to control flow. It is a on/off valve with limited adjusting. There are other ways of silencing the flow, Durso method, airline tubing in the drain pipe, etc. You probably know this by now, aside from getting the amount of flow down to equal up, you need to also have a plan for when the overflow siphon stops and the pump does not. The other way around is usually not a problem since most people do not have a full sump/refugium.
The 1.25" drain should not be a problem, though many people do not like Rio pumps (that's another thread in itself). I personally have a 1" drain overflow box and a mag 9.5 pumping water back up. Currently I do not have any silencing modifications so mine is a bit noisy but it is in a basement. |
