Little help please
Hey all, been reading lots in forums, learing LOTS! Anyway, just got some of these in my tank guess they tagged along with my live rock. I would say there is around 20 -30 of them in there starting with only 1 lol. Wondering if they are harmful and if they are how to get rid of them please?
Thanks in advance. Last edited by Carnage; 04-28-2007 at 01:34 AM. |

Hi Carnage,
![]() Those are pesky anemones called Aiptasia. You'd be better off to try and eliminate them, although it may be a harder than it sounds. Here's an article that describes some methods of fighting those pest off. Impressions of Methods to Eliminate Pest Anemones

I use a product called Joes Juice that you squirt into their mouths and it works a treat - not sure if its available in OZ though

Re: Little help please
Just shoot em up with limewater or small amounts of vinegar...they'll die.

Re: Little help please
Do as Samper! Just remember to suck them out when they die and do a water change. Also keep your skimmer going!

Re: Little help please
I've had mixed results with limewater. I ended up getting the best results by mixing it up very thick. I use Pickling Lime mixed with RO/DI water to the consistency of toothpaste. I use a plastic medicine dosing syringe to squirt the mixture into, on and around them. It seems to kill them every time. It's also somewhat good for your water as the Pickling Lime increases Calcium as it dissolves in your tank. Pickling Lime is also what I use for Kalk. dripping.
