Fancy Brittle Starfish

Hello,

I finally found my fancy brittle star. I had only seen three inches of his legs. (Arms)

I knew he was bigger, but he was just teasing me.

From tip of arm to tip of arm, is two feet, (24 inches)

This sucker is huge!!!!

He has a light grey colored body, (with pink markings at each arm joint)

He is huge!!!

So, here is my question: I have an 180 gallon tank, and although I am not too worried about thestar eating anything, but there is a risk, and that plus, he is soo cool looking, but I could never find him before, just his legs.

Should I put him back into my tank, or should I put him into a small tank, or give him away or back to the lfs???

Re: Fancy Brittle Starfish

Bill,

How long have you had the star in your tank? If you had it for quite some time and it didn't do any harm to anything, then I would just leave it be. I have pretty large black brittle star that is roughly 18-20 inches across and been in my anemone tank for 9 years now. I don;t know what it eats but my guess is it is primarily a scavenger type. I do throw piece of silverside close to the rock it lives under on occasion and it is usually consumed instantly, but main food is mostly the leftovers.
