Smile Couple tank shots. Warning: large pics

These are taken after the recent temp spike, the bleaching and then the following RTN bout that took 4 colonies, and at least 4-5 frags that other reefers gave me. It'll be a few months till I add to the tank, but it seems everything there now is recovering. I took a couple pics of the 55, but the acrylic was a little dirty, I'll throw some of those up a pretty soon. Here we go:

Full tank (90 gal), with the 3 MH on and the actinic. Colorwise, you can't tell the Iwasaki from the HQI. but if you look at the right side, you can see that the HQI coverage is lacking compared to the left with the parabolic reflector.

Right side of tank, with hair algae:

    leftside of tank:

    One of my clams:

    Pic of an acro:

I keep contemplating setting a web-site up...but I always seem to start one, and then stop for lack of interest...maybe next time I'll finish one....

    Nice looking SPS

I just went through a run with RTN also and lost a few nice colonies. Don't you just hate that.

Thanks all for the comments...keep me from ripping it apart...that **** hair algae keeps sprouting up....

I'll get it somewhat under control, then something new will happen (most recently that horrible RTN).

    Here's hoping

I didn't do it. Nobody saw me do it. You can't prove anything.

Nice Perry...I had RTN wipe out a blue tipped acro about 3 months ago. Was one of my favorite pieces...I am just getting over some hair algae too. IMHO, mine was due to older bulbs. I changed them and it is disappearing.

RTN is an acronym for Rapid Tissue Necrosis. Its a coral "disease" in which the flesh of the coral simply peels away from the bottom up. The exact causes aren't known, but there is believed to be more than one. IME there is no way to stop it once it has started...other than fragging a coral out and throwing away the parts that are dying off, but even that won't help sometimes. Other than that, using carbon and water changes seems to help. Some people think its do to having too many coral too close to eachother....but my tank isn't, nor was heavily populated compared to many I have seen. My only non-SPS is a favia, so its not softie chemical warfare....

In my case, I think a newly introduced specimen started it, and it spread throughout the tank. I was able to frag about half of the corals that got it.

myreef-I am sure its not the lighting. The Iwasaki are about 8 months old, the HQI less than 4. I just got new DI cartriges from reefland, and I think I need to get a new RO membrane. My TDS are reading from 20-40...they were 60 before the new DI's....

Mike -yup, they all dig being in pictures... The sailfin is a pest, anytime I work on the tank, it will bug me till I pet it.... like a tiny dog.
